Instructor Dave showing up the kids the last day of 2023. Can he do it again or will he be reminded he is not 18 any longer? Come find out on Saturday and Sunday afternoons at Rocco. (He will do it is the bet)

My apologies, but there is much to tell in the lines below.

This is the last weekend of the 2024 Jr Ski Program. I do not like those words, but bullwheels come to a stop and it is game over, out of quarters at 4 pm Sunday. For this weekend the kids still line up in classes but then do different things. SkyKids try scavenger hunts, other classes do races. We try to leave the kids with good memories of the year. Almost 60 years later I still remember my fun days at Sky Tavern, I hope these kids have similar memories. My goal, always.

Everyone still gets here at the normal time and lines up as usual. Kids that have not raised the flag yet come find me when it is time. Parents take pictures. If you have a child that just has to pass to the next level, find an instructor in orange. They are still here to help! Getting punched that final time is a huge win.

A few other bite-size bits of information

GM Mike O is working to build a pond skimming event for the afternoons. Simply, it is skiing down a hill and across a kid's sized pond. What could go wrong? My 6-year-old granddaughter made it last year. Yes, you end up soaked, and giggling! It is the last weekend. Bring extra clothes.

A five-second video of our guy Corbin last year. here.

The weather. 80 degrees in Reno on Thursday, snowing at Sky Tavern Saturday and maybe Sunday. I have no comment, answer, or excuse. It is my fault. I set up patio furniture at home.

If you can’t find you coat it is most likely in the pile of Lost and Found in the front room. Go check for it and anything else missing. Anything not claimed gets sold at the Ski Swap next November.

Sky Tavern rental gear return. Two choices. One is to turn it back into Colin in the Tune Room this weekend. The second is that May 7-10th he will be at a different high school each night with a truck and trailer to collect gear. Watch for the times and locations. We try to make this easy on Mom and Dad to get the gear back to Sky. If you do go pond skimming, the boots need to dry before Colin will take them back. Fussy about that.

Mt.Rose is open for two more weekends after us. Go. The way it works is you learn at Sky then move on to Rose or other big mountain. Go take a look. Let the kids have an adventure. Detachable lifts are a thrill to ride for the first time. Click their ad for more. Check other resort web pages for deals. (A Sky Tavern pass is a season pass)

When any member believes in Sky Tavern so strongly that they go the extra step and get a certification in snowsports, I am in awe and indebted to them. It can be that red coat from Ski Patrol or orange from PSIA/AASI, both show commitment and grit.

Last weekend was PSIA/AASI instructors 100% passing their tests after a year of work all to do more for kids. This is the latest group to pass Level 1 for Professional Ski Instructors of America and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors. They deserve applause for their devotion and that of their trainers!

Registration for the 2025 season is now open. While the world is getting more expensive each day, Sky Tavern is bucking the trend and holding prices the same as last season until this summer. If spreading out some payments makes the choice to join back up easier, just contact Lythia in the office and she can set a payment plan up. It is no problem at all or click the class below to get started. I hope you are coming back for 2025.

A barn raising. That is how I describe Sky Tavern. Click the class above to tell us if that barn is standing or falling. No long forms, no names collected. Please, just a few minutes to tell it how it is. This matters.

After Sky Tavern closes I always have a few things to reflect on. Next week will be no different except the pondering will include much more than this last season. THe plan to follow.

Talk to you next to the pond this weekend.

Bill
