Sky Tavern Equipment Rental Program

Season Leases

Kids gear $89.99

Adults $119.99

Snow is coming so time to get this old-fashioned barn-raising going.

This sport takes lots of gear. While there are lots of ways to get skis, snowboards, and boots for the season, if you are new to the sport nothing makes more sense than a season rental. You have lots of choices of where to rent as most of our buddies, Bobos included, have great packages. Over the years our rental manager, Colin, has "acquired, talked out of, had donated, purchased or I don't want to know how" a great amount of skis, boots, snowboards, and poles as inventory to build a Sky Tavern rental program. Sky Tavern has over 2000 sets of skis and boards in great shape to get you on the snow. Most are a few years old. There are skis and boards that will fit a 4-year-old up to most adults. (Big and large might be an issue but there are a few sets of size 14 boots in there.)

He has spent the summer tuning, checking and generally getting thousands of sets of skis and boards ready for the season. It can be yours to lease as long as you are a 2024 Sky Tavern member. We only rent to our members, but you can use the stuff anywhere you want during the season. One family took them to Europe for a vacation. Gear is due back after the Tahoe resorts close, usually the first week in May.

Snowboard packages include a snowboard, boots, and a leash.

Ski Packages include skis, boots, and poles.

Helmets are required at Sky Tavern and are your responsibility to purchase.

We try to do this as inexpensively as possible. Rental gear takes a lot of special power equipment to keep in good shape and a full-time person making this happen. All rental fittings happen at Sky Tavern by appointment. It is simple and it works.

How to rent skis and boards

1. Purchase Rentals online Click Here Please make sure you log into the same account you purchased the season passes.

2. Wait 2-3 business days for the rental email. Subject-IMPORTANT EQUIPMENT INFORMATION-2024 (Follow the instructions in the email)

3. Make an appointment with the link in the email sent to you.

4. Print and fill out the rental form that is attached to the IMPORTANT EQUIPMENT INFORMATION-2024 for each person getting gear. We have blanks at the hill so don't run home when you forget them.

5. When you get to the lodge, check in, and we start by fitting boots upstairs. Make sure they fit. Kids' boots will be slightly larger than the shoe size, since they are growing. The person who is renting the gear MUST be present. Yes, we have Colin and his crew there to help you.

BTW, I think that setting up kids might be my favorite part of a Sky Tavern season. Excited kids are so amazing. There are many smiles during this that we need to capture.

Please show up to the lodge at Sky Tavern to rent gear wearing socks! Sort of a big deal. Yuck!

Please make sure you are on time for the appointment. If appointments are canceled or rescheduled more than twice we will cancel the rental equipment and you will need to rent from a place in town if we run out. We have limited appointments and want to make sure everyone gets their equipment. There will be some free for all days in December. The goal is to get everyone set up before Jan 1.

The guy that keeps all the stuff working, is Colin. Yes, my son, a true jack of all trades and owner of a warped sense of humor concerning his father as you might see in the picture.

Saturday, November 11, from 9 to noon at Sky Tavern

Learn to be a ski and snowboard tech

Taking care of the gear that kids and parents bring to Sky Tavern is a huge job. Setting up rentals is another. Working in the tune room is a member position, and Colin can always use help doing tuning and rentals.

This takes a little mechanical ability and some training to learn fitting, tuning, binding adjustment, and how to run the big green machine. Come to Sky Tavern on Saturday, Nov 11 at 9 a.m. and get started on learning this. The plan is to go through basic tuning and binding set-up, get some certifications done and learn how to not ruin your kid's snowboard with the Winterstagar machine.

You still need to own helmets, clothing, gloves, and other fun stuff. The Ski Swap is the single largest fundraising event for Sky Tavern each year, and the money we raise goes straight into a program for kids. Please tell your neighbors. New for this year is a Mountain Bike section!

We have a bounce house, food trucks, and other booths of interesting things. We try to make this a fun event.

You will find Christmas presents there too! Cleaning out the garage and bringing still usable gear to sell can get you another parking space. Bring it down on Thursday or Friday and tag it to sell. We make some money (18%), you make some money.

The Warren Miller movie in the past seasons was an event equal to a rock concert with Sky Tavern a part of putting it on. This year the showing has been a secret at best and maybe Sky should step up and make this happen big again.

In my life I have met two public superstars that made a lasting impression on me. First was Carroll Shelby, and second was Warren Miller. Ask me about both meetings while I am dumping the garbage this winter. Go see the movie because "Winter Starts Here" and our buddy Glen Plake is in it.

Saturday night at the Grand Sierra. info here. Click on the picture for the trailer. It is still a Warren Miller movie!
